Excuses are for the weak. Personal goals are what drive us. In Mick’s case, one of these goals was to run 9.3-second passes. Why 9.3? Because it’s quicker than a 9.4.
After running a couple of 9.4-second passes in the summer heat, Mick was determined to hit the new target at the opening round of the 2018 Atura NSW Championships.
That determination showed through when he ran a perfect .000-second reaction time in the first qualifying pass for the day. But the hits kept coming as he then ran new PBs at every measurable incremental before recording a 9.313 Elapsed Time — a whole .15-seconds quicker than his previous PB.
A one-off quick sixty-foot time is good, but repeatable quick sixty-footers are much better. Mick ran 1.438, 1.454, 1.435 and 1.450, all quicker than his previous bests.
The reaction times? Ha ha, the less said about the next three redlights the better!
Finishline ETs were 9.313, 9.375, 9.390 and 9.364 with speeds between an early shutoff 138 and 144.69mph.
Personally satisfying and all thanks to the people who help make this possible.
Leonard from Azzopardi Racing put this 1397cc engine together a few years ago and apart from regular changes of the FUCHS Silkolene Australia Pro 4 XP, it hasn’t been touched since then.

The swingarm is longer, the rear bodywork and shock absorber have both been changed, and a lot of time has been put into finessing the basic package to work together.
The next goal is to run back-to-back 9.2s!
